How Does Seeking Safety Therapy Help PTSD Patients
How Does Seeking Safety Therapy Help PTSD Patients PTSD Treatment Print How Does Seeking Safety Therapy Help PTSD Patients? By Matthew Tull, PhD twitter Matthew Tull, PhD is a professor of psychology at the University of Toledo, specializing in post-traumatic stress disorder. Learn about our editorial policy Matthew Tull, PhD Updated on June 24, 2019 Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Overview Symptoms & Diagnosis Causes & Risk Factors Treatment Living With In Children Joe Houghton/Moment/Getty Images Seeking SafetyI is a form of cognitive-behavioral group therapy that specifically targets the unique problems that result when people struggle with drug and alcohol abuse as well as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Why People With PTSD Have Substance Abuse Problems PTSD is an anxiety disorder and many people with such disorders and other mental health conditions turn to drugs and alcohol to cope with their feelings of discomfort. People with PTSD tend to be hypervigilant. That is, they may refuse to sit with their back to the door because they want to see whos coming and going at all times in an effort to make them feel safe. They may have flashbacks of the traumatic event or refuse to go places that remind them of the event or visit any location where they feel they could be victimized again. If they survived a traumatic event while others did not, they may have survivors guilt. To numb the traumatic feelings, people with PTSD may use drugs and alcohol to self-medicate. Initially, using drugs or alcohol to suppress difficult feelings might seem to help the individuals who engage in it manage life for a while, but often this behavior eventually catches up with them. The Harm of Self-Medicating Self-medicating can adversely affect ones health, strain relationships, endanger ones career, and result in financial troubles. Self-medicating may also cause the symptoms of a mental health condition to worsen, the exact opposite effect those who use drugs and alcohol to cope actually want. In some cases, self-medicating may lead a person with PTSD to experience another traumatic event or result in their death. After all, many people with substance abuse problems die in drunk driving crashes or overdose. Seeking Safety offers people with PTSD an alternative to alcohol and drugs. It teaches these individuals a number of different coping skills, so they can avoid the number of negative outcomes people with substance abuse problems face. These coping mechanisms include learning how to ask others for help, recognizing warning signs or high-risk situations for drug and alcohol use, self-care, and coping with PTSD symptoms. The top priority of Seeking Safety therapy is improving the persons safety; as a result, all skills are geared towards this focus. Wrapping Up If you have PTSD and are inappropriately using drugs or alcohol to cope, speak with a mental health provider about the benefits and drawbacks of Seeking Safety therapy. An honest conversation with your therapist may help you determine whether Seeking Safety is a suitable therapy for you or if youd be better off with another form of intervention. Group therapy, however, can let you know that youre not alone and that many other people whove endured a traumatic event have turned to alcohol and drugs, be they prescription or street drugs, to cope with their symptoms. In addition, in group therapy sessions youll be surrounded with a group of your peers rather than an authority figure, such as a psychiatrist. If you tend to have a problem with authority figures, such as police officers, doctors, teachers or your own parents, ongoing group therapy sessions may be a welcome change.

A post mortem report is an important document, which is written in the final stage of a project work. It is a short analysis that is aimed at summarizing the project highlights, its advantages, drawbacks, and useful recommendations. A post mortem report sample is an example of how to prepare an appropriate post mortem report, which would efficiently and comprehensively outline a project. A post mortem report sample will show how this document should be organized, and it will help to understand the major requirements for this paper. Project Title: Public Transport Tracking Mobile App Short description: The global technology company Google introduced a recently developed mobile app, which enables its users to track the public transport system in their cities, find the nearest bus stops, and check the timetable. The app was launched on December 15th, 2016 in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Germany, and Great Britain. By the end of 2017, the company plans to extend its databases and make the app available for people from Europe and Asia. This app is principally different from everything else currently existing. It provides users with a possibility to create their favorite routes and to be notified of the changes in the public transport system on this course. In addition, people can purchase a brand-new function that enables them to get a push notification if a chosen bus is approaching. Advantages: The Marketing Department shows incredibly great work results since advertising and selling system work absolutely flawlessly. The communication system between headquarters and local departments in each of five countries functions effectively and accurately. The Department of Customer Support properly accomplishes its tasks and ensures an effective two-way communication with the clients. Cultural and financial diversities of different markets were taken into account while developing and promoting the service. The Department of Statistics and Data Processing introduced a comprehensive sales report, which enabled to analyze the project success and showed that the financial strategy should be revised. Disadvantages: The app is available for the Android operating system, but there have been no versions developed for IOS and Windows Phone yet. There are lots of users complaints regarding flaws in the work of the software; in particular, there are repetitive problems with the Internet connection. The Finance Department experienced difficulties since the contract with one of the major project sponsors was lost, which resulted in rescheduling of the app launching. The internal corporate issues with personnel in the Software Development Department, which occurred during the program designing, prove that the human resources strategy should be revised. Conclusions and Future Considerations: The mobile app download rates prove that this project bought a remarkable success because potential users show a great interest in this service since the very moment it was introduced, and its popularity keeps growing. The closest steps, which are expected to have been taken by the end of February 2017, include introducing of mobile app versions for France, Spain, Russia, and Austria. However, it is important to fix the software flaws before extending the target audience in order to ensure the smooth functioning of the app.

Psychological Effects of Hiv Discordant Results in a Couple
MARAMBIRE EDSON TAWANDA International Institute For Capacity Development Trust Diploma In HIV Counseling, Care And Prevention SECOND BLOCK ASSIGNMENT SECTION B Discuss the possible psychological effects of HIV and AIDS on a couple that has HIV discordant results June 2011 0772 286 311 HIV discordant couples are those in which one of the couples has HIV negative and the other has HIV positive. Such couples definitely suffer from psychological effects which may range from mild to severe. Psychological effects are those thoughts, feelings and emotions that affect the mental well being of the affected and infected persons. The one living with HIV/AIDS isâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦It is important to keep in mind the complexity of the womanââ¬â¢s social and economic situation. The infected woman confronts many difficulties and complications to be able to keep medical appointments, one of which is to find someone to care for her children. If this is not possible, she has to find a way to bring them with her on public transportation and care for them during her visit in clinics or hospitals. For a woman who has severe symptoms, this is a grueling task, and she may prefer to receive medical services within the home. One of the most difficult decisions for a woman and her family is final wishes and funeral planning. Because of such social and economic challenges, fear, grief, anger, anxiety and possibly depression and suicidal thoughts are common psychological effects which will at one time haunt the infected women since the husband may distant himself, withdrawing any form of support as he accuses her of bringing the infection into the family. In countries like Zimbabwe, the cultural, social and religions expectations create beliefs about rigid gender roles that result in the lack of empowerment among women. The differences in power in interpersonal relationships create a context of oppression that propitiates psychological trauma. Either the husband or the wife may find him/herself inundated with feelings of blame if he/she fears that he/she has infected others, especially his/her children.

The Most exciting Japanese Games Ever. Essays - Nintendo, Gaming
The Most exciting Japanese Games Ever. Over the years, Japanese developers have come up with a number mind-blowing of video games. Some have been top-notch, and others just deplorable. These are a list of the most exciting ones. Space Invaders (1978) Space Invaders defined Japanese gaming for a generation. The game helped kick up a tide of space-based shooters, and it was so popular when it was released in 1978 that arcades dedicated solely to the game, named "Invader House" in Japanese, appeared all over the country. With its thumping score, Space Invaders was one of the first games to realize the potential of music. No wonder The Pretenders released a track called "Space Invader." Pac-Man (1980) Pac-Man's impact has been enormous. Pac-Man is gaming's first superstar character, appealing to a wide variety of players. Even today, the basic game design is timeless, with players trying to avoid enemies until they got a power-up. The design and concepts in Pac-Man have influenced countless games throughout the decades. Donkey Kong (1981) There are a slew of reasons why this game is important. It told a story, albeit a simple one, in an age when most arcade games did not. It was a massive hit for Nintendo when the company needed one most and then gave Nintendo a huge foothold in the U.S. It also introduced players to Jumpman, who would later be renamed Mario. Oh, and it was created by some dude named Shigeru Miyamoto. Super Mario Bros. (1985) Not only one of the most important video games ever produced, but also one of the most important creative works made in the last forty years. Dragon Quest (1986) Internationally, Dragon Quest hasn't quite reached the level of Final Fantasy's popularity. In its native Japan, Dragon Quest is a cultural institution. The Dragon Quest games have influenced generations of Japanese gamers and game creators. The success of the very first title helped a young game designer at another game company get the greenlight for the RPG he had always wanted to make. The developer's name was Hironobu Sakaguchi, and the game was Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy (1987) The lore behind Final Fantasy's conception and development is one of gaming's great yarns. With their back against the wall, Square thought this game was going to bankrupt them, hence the word "Final" in the title. (Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi said the original title was "Fighting Fantasy," and any word that started with "F" would've been a-okay.) But can you imagine if this game was never made? Can you imagine Japanese gaming without Final Fantasy? Mega Man (1987) Mega Man is one of the most well-known video game characters ever to come out of Capcom. With big, memorable bosses and wonderful soundtracks, Mega Man left its own lasting mark on the platforming genre. Just look how many people backed Mighty No. 9 in the hope it would fulfil its promise as the character's spiritual successor. Baseball Stars (1989) Sorry Bases Loaded, but Baseball Stars is the best baseball game on the Famicom (NES). It was fun to play, but more importantly, it had several features that would influence future sports games and become standard. Via the game's manager feature, you could create teams as well as players. Not only was it possible to improve their abilities by using in-game cash earned after wins, but you could fire them if they didn't perform and draft new ones. You could play a 125-game season, which would be saved by battery backup, and the game would track stats for all the players in the league. Street Fighter II (1991) There were fighting games before Street Fighter II, but no fighting game was the same after it. If you were in arcades in the early 1990s, you couldn't miss it. Besides influencing the genre, the game was so popular that Nintendo actually designed the SNES controller around it. Sonic The Hedgehog (1991) Going up against Mario is no easy feat. But that first Sonic game, with those wonderful blues and greens, terrific platforming, and blazing speed did a wonderful job of challenging Mario. In many ways, Sonic, with all his tude, was the anti-Mario. The perfect foil for an era in which Sega did what Nintendo didn't. Super Mario Kart (1992) You gotta love Nintendo. As with fighting games, they didn't just

Microeconomic Principles essays
Microeconomic Principles essays In studying economic activities and concepts, there are two dominant modes of thought that come to the forefront; neoclassicism or the mainstream view and Austrian economics. These two schools of thought have points of contention on many different issues and theories found in the analysis of economic events. Several literary works have been written detailing the differences between the two approaches, although they have been subject to much criticism by the Austrian school. The major distinctions outlined by many authors include: praxeology, indifference, cardinality, continuity, probability, mathematical analysis, and public goods. Praxeological analysis is the basic foundation for the entire Austrian approach to economic observation. Human action is the most important and defining concept in Austrian economics. Human beings act, and the choices they make are based on motives or not-yet realized parts which explain the behavior and thoughts that they exhibit. This basic notion allows for the Austrian school to build an approach based on human action, and the means they use to get to an end. Neoclassical economics differs in the sense that they seek to explain human action in terms of value and choice with their foundation firmly embedded in utility. In short, neoclassical value theory not only stresses that what we feel determines how we behave. It presupposes that there are constant relationships between our feelings on the one hand, and our behavior on the other hand that can be studied and described by the neoclassical consumer theory. (Hulsman, 5) The Austrian school maintains that neoclassic ec onomics waste their time in calculating maximization and equilibrium to describe human behavior. They contend that there are no laws that govern what any one person will do in a given situation. Indifference is a simple concept that has brought about many heated debates in economi...

Praises to the Correct Use of The Semicolon
Praises to the Correct Use of The Semicolon Praises to the Correct Use of The Semicolon Praises to the Correct Use of The Semicolon By Daniel Scocco Lana, one of our readers, pointed me to a very interesting article over the NY Times. Titled Celebrating the Semicolon in a Most Unlikely Location, the article describes how the reporter was pleasantly surprised by finding an erudite and correct use of the semicolon on a subway sign. ââ¬Å"Please put it in a trash can,â⬠riders are reminded. After which Neil Neches, an erudite writer in the transit agencyââ¬â¢s marketing and service information department, inserted a semicolon. The rest of the sentence reads, ââ¬Å"thatââ¬â¢s good news for everyone.â⬠Semicolon sightings in the city are unusual, period, much less in exhortations drafted by committees of civil servants. In literature and journalism, not to mention in advertising, the semicolon has been largely jettisoned as a pretentious anachronism. The article argues that most people avoid using the semicolon merely because they are not sure about it. We covered it in the past, specifically outlining the differences between the colon and the semicolon. If you need a reminder, the article itself describes how it should be used: Americans, in particular, prefer shorter sentences without, as style books advise, that distinct division (the semicolon) between statements that are closely related but require a separation more prolonged than a conjunction and more emphatic than a comma.
